Despite the internal and external challenges facing Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari is committed to elimination of terrorism and extremism, strengthening of federation and bringing about a tangible socio-economic change in the country, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported. When President Zardari took reign of the country's affairs on September 9 last year as a democratic head of state, Pakistan was facing a difficult situation in the wake of terrorist attacks and a tense environment due to drone attacks in the tribal areas. Besides, the country was also facing severe fiscal and economic challenges including the fast depleting foreign exchange reserves, inflation at 25 percent, 40 percent reduction in stock market capital, capital flight, decrease in foreign investment and loadshedding. According to a PTV report which reflected an overview of the first 100 days of President Asif Ali Zardari, the main issue was to take the international community into confidence about Pakistan's efforts in the global fight against terrorism. President Zardari after the Mumbai terror attacks, did not let the situation to deteriorate by adopting a policy of understanding, conciliation and strength. The President, through contacts with the world leaders, presented Pakistan's just view-point and made it clear that Pakistan being a responsible country will abide by the principles of international community in the global fight against terrorism, the report said.
