Atul Zemse (31) allegedly killed his father at their Mulund home after 12.45 am on Saturday after he was refused money to buy alcohol. The unemployed man, who lived with his pensioner parents, Sudhir (61) and, at Eastern Magistrate Society in Tata Colony, Mulund (East), has been arrested and charged with murder.
Police said Atul slit his father’s throat with scissors used to cut vegetables. Sudhir died on the spot.
“The crime was not planned and was committed in anger. We have recovered the scissors and arrested Atul,” said Ashok Bhorde, inspector, Navghar Police Station.
The accused was produced before a magistrate and has been remanded in police custody until September 26.
Police said Atul told neighbours he had killed his father and asked them to call police. He did not make any attempt to flee.
While Sudhir used to work in the statistics department of the RBI office in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Rekha is a former employee of the DGP office. She had recently taken voluntary retirement. Police said Atul and parents had frequent fights over his drinking and inability to find work.
