Bundesliga Matchday 4: Bayern wins direct test with Schalke 04, back on top

FC Bayern Muenchen is once again on top of the Bundesliga, after Eintracht Frankfurt, the only other team in the league with four wins, moved to the top yesterday. In a direct test against Schalke 04, the Bayern were the far better team. The game was over in the 60th minute when Thomas Mueller scored the second Bayern goal.

Last years champion Borussia Dortmund lost 3-2 in Dortmund, dropping the Borussen into fourth place, five points behind the league leaders.

After a scoreless first half, where Bayern dominated, Bayern pulled ahead with a goal by Toni Kroos in the 55th minute. Thomas Mueller with a sneaky play on the right side, through the legs of Fuchs, Schalke expected a pass, but Mueller took a wide ankle shot into the net.

After 58 minutes Bayern led 2-0. Schalke, which is a fellow Champions League contender, with aspirations for the Bundesliga title, were shown that FC Bayern is one step ahead of them. Bayern dominated the game during the last 30 minutes and freely passed the ball among them, right in front of the penalty area.

Wolfsburg and Greuther Fuerth played to a 1-1 draw. The Fuerth goal came as a result of an own goal 20th minute, but Olic was able to get the equalizer just before half time in the 42nd minute.

Mainz won its first game of the season against FC Augsburg with goals by Ivanschitz in the tenth minute and Szalai in the 25th minute. FC Augsburg is still chasing their first victory after the 2-0 loss.

Hamburger SV registered its first win of the season against no other than last years champion Borussia Dortmund. An early goal by Son, in the 2nd minute gave Hamburg the lead. Perisic got the equalizer just before the half in the 46th minute.

In the second have three goals where scored within five minutes. Hamburg's Ilecevic scored in the 55th minute for a 2-1 Hamburg lead. Son followed with his second goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute for a 3-1 Hamburg lead. Perisic, with his second of the game followed in the 60th minute to narrow the score to 3-2.

Hamburg held on for the win for the remaining 30 minutes to gain the first three points of the new season. Dortmund was the dominating team in the match, but showed weakenesses in its defence, as is evident by the three goals.

Today's final match was between Fortuna Duesseldorf and FC Freiburg. The teams fought to a scoreless tie.

Yesterday Eintracht Frankfurt defeated 1.FC Nuernberg 2-1, which plaeced the newly promoted Frankfurt into first place with four wins in as many starts. Goal difference is what separates Frankfurt from Bayern, who have five more goals in their plus column.

Leverkusen and Gladbach had.fast and furious game. .At 3 minutes into the game. Herrmann put Gladbach on the scoreboard. Leverkusen came back with a goal in the 12th minute and. Kadlec scored for Leverkusen for the equalizer. Just before half time Schurrle had a clear breakaway but missed the open side of the net. In the 70th min. Schurrle took a penalty shot and hit the goal post. Leverkusen controlled most of the second half. Final score1-1

Bremen hosted Stuttgart and got the go ahead goal in the 23rd minutes whe DeBruyne scored for Bremen. Just 11 minutes later Junuzovic doubled the lead for Bremen. Both teams had equal opportunities in the first half but Bremen found the target twice. In the second half Stuttgart took control of the game and was rewarded with a goal by Hanik in the 50th minute. In the 81st minute Cacau got the equalizer. Two players saw red during the game, one for Hanik in the 87th minute and another for Bremen in the 90th minute. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Hoffenheim finally won a game. Even after going down by one after an own goal in the 26th miute, Johnson equalized just seconds later in the 20th minute. Both teams concentrated on defensive play for long period of the game. It wasn't until the 62nd minute that Sahilovic got the go ahead goal. Williams gave Hoffenheim a two goal lead in the 90th minute, for the 3-1 win for Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim has moved to 16th place in the league.

yes it was an excellent game. Dortmund was a little bit surprising. It seems Kagawa and Lewandowski combination was a good one. Not sure where the problem in defence came from.

I don't think Bayern will even lose a game in the Bundesliga this season; their team is too deep. I'm also glad that they moved the Leverkusen/Monchengladbach match to Sunday since they played on Thursday.

As the Champions League moves on, if they make it into the last eight again, there could be some trouble on the horizon for the league. The key is to add up the points now, before it gets to that point.

Yes the three Sunday games brought more excitement. It was surprising that Hoffenheim after a bad start, was able to beat Hanover 96. This week has two matchdays in the making. How will the clubs handle the extra pressure?
