A Georgia mother of two had thought she had a bad cold or the flu, but Desiree Alford, 28, soon learned it was much more serious. She is now in intensive care, battling flesh-eating bacteria, MyFoxAtlanta reported.
Aside from the flu-like symptoms, Alford's parents said, Desiree had one small red spot that rapidly grew. They rushed her to Upson Regional Medical Center, and doctors broke the news that she had contracted flesh-eating bacteria and had to do emergency surgery.
The parents Cathy and David Bagley said they've heard the news about Aimee Copeland and others with flesh-eating bacteria, but they never expected it would occurred to anyone they know, much less their daughter.
The Bagleys have no idea where she could have gotten the bacteria. She's a home buddy mother of two, 4-year-old Jermaine and 6-year-old Ashlynn.
A couple of baseball-sized lumps of flesh and muscle were already removed by doctors. Cathy Bagley said doctors have scraped it out 90 percent of the awful infection on her backside.
