Is Your Network Ready for Mobile Devices?

Ever since the launch of the Apple iPod more than five years back, the portable media player has shown a steady upward curve in its sales graph. Even as recent as two years back, the iPod recorded a sales figure of 14 million. However, the figure staggered to a record low of only 8.5 million last year, with sales further plummeting this quarter at only 8.1 million. This is indication of the fact that the Apple iPod market is now saturated. But is the competition coming from within Apple’s products? Is it time to bid goodbye to the MP3 player as the world embraces the Apple smartphones? If reports are to be believed, the advent of iPhone with its advanced operating system is the main reason for the decreasing popularity of the iPod. Read on to know more.

According to reports, Apple is still the master of more than 70 percent of the MP3 player market. But the iPod is slowly losing ground to Apple iPhone and several other tablets & smartphones since these mobile devices are capable of performing every function & much more when compared to an iPod.

In the month of September last year, the iPod Touch was revamped with additional features like FaceTime. However, it failed to generate similar sales figures as iPhone 4, the latest version of the Apple smartphone available in the mobile market during the time. While the iPod Touch performs most tasks that the iPhone can, except perhaps for helping to make calls, the downside of the former is that it allows a user to access the internet only inside a WiFi zone. Armed with an iPhone, users can use the net as and when they like. Also, iPods do not come armed with a video recorder and camera, two of the most important features used by individuals on their mobile devices these days.

Did you know that purchase and maintenance of iPhones may cost you less than those of iPods? Most iPhone subscribers enter into service contracts with AT&T, thus subsidizing the final cost of the mobile device when compared to the latest versions of iPods, like iPod Touch. But it is definitely the phone, instant messaging, and voice dialing features of the iPhone that makes it a more popular mobile device when compared to iPods. Since a user can enjoy phone & camera services while also listen to music on an iPhone, there has been a steady decline of the use of iPods all over the world.

There exists a section of people who prefer the use of iPods and a simple mobile phone instead of carrying the expensive iPhone, for which a high service fee has to be paid each month. But if you are a part of an enterprise where you need to make frequent calls and access the net on the go, the iPhone is indeed the best option for you. Features such as 3G networking, built in maps, and GPS mapping are helping iPhone sales to go up while contributing to the declining popularity of iPods.
