October, November, February, March and April are the cooler months in Dubai, and during those months, the monthly music festival of Sandance is the most popular ticket in town, with thousands of arms swinging in the dark to the sound of some of the world’s best DJs, while the moon shimmers off the still water just a few feet away.
Each 12-hour festival, hosted at the luxurious Atlantis hotel, draws thousands of revealers to the long strip of beach on the manmade island of Palm Jumeirah, which faces inwards towards the mainland. In the three years since the festival has blasted-off, past musicians have included such top names as , Fat Boy Slim and Snow Patrol.
While we were there swaying our arms we heard Tim Deary, managing partner at Think “Morcheeba at sunset gave me goosebumps, Example had the whole beach bouncing, Faithless was unforgettable!” By the way Think was the events company that helps stage the festival.
Sandance music festival starts at 2 pm each day, so there is plenty of time to hit the beach, have an afternoon swim, enjoy long lazy cocktails and make sure your shoes are hidden away as you hit the sands for a barefoot bop until 2 am.
Not like in other areas of Dubai, the parties are lenient when it comes to dress codes, so think flip flops, T-shirts and shorts or a beach dress for women.
