John McCain had a very rough day with the ladies of The View. They whipped McCain, who called Roe v. Wade "a bad decision,"--something I would enjoying doing. "There has also been a question burning amongst voters and actually our viewers and that is the question of Roe vs.. Wade," Hasselbeck pressed. "And as president, if you were, no softballs coming from me, even though you have my vote. Would you as president work to overturn that?"
Although McCain has expressed that he is pro-life, he answered Hasselbeck by deferring to nominating justices to the Supreme Court who would strictly interpret the United States Constitution.
Things got heated when co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked if she should be worried about a return to slavery. McCain, sticking to his script said "My interpretation of the Constitution of the United States is that the United States Supreme Court enforces the Constitution of the United States and does not legislate nor invent areas that are responsibilities, according to the Constitution, of the legislative branch." He added "And I believe that if Roe vs.. Wade were overturned, then the states would make these decisions."
Dissatisfied with the answer, Goldberg feigned a question in which she asked McCain if he wanted to appoint strict "Constitutionalists," to which he said he wanted justices who would interpret the Constitution as the Founding Fathers did.
Wow, I sure hope women everywhere were listening to this! Do people remember that the constitution at one time strictly forbid non-land-owning men, minorities, and women, the vote in the constitution. The Founding Fathers at the time, obviously meant for it to be this way. Heck, minorities weren't even allowed their freedom!
The fact of the matter is, ALL of the Founding Fathers intended for women NOT TO VOTE!! That was very clear, and "strict constitutionalists" would have to view the constitution from this perspective.
Hmm.. I wonder if women really realize just how much that "glass ceiling" being shattered may not necessarily mean things will better for them. Just because there's an unprepared, inexperienced hockey mom in the White House doesn't change that.
it was designed to protect the majority which was white and offcourse men. Now the demographics are changing rapidly and you are seeing the rise of other minority groups like women.
As a women when i look at Palin, I get excited but when I dig deep into what she stands for my stomach turns. When are we ever going to see the rise of great women in politics? Why do we prop up women who stand for something they don't believe in themselves?
