Fascination with the royal family continues as Se & Hor, a celebrity magazine in Sweden, has published the topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge in spite of the British royalty’s outrage. Its sister publication, Se & Hoer in Denmark, is about to do the same later this week. The photos were originally published by the French magazine Closer. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the French magazine, and proceedings also are expected against publications that have printed the photos in Ireland, Italy, and on the Internet as well. British publications have not printed the photos, at least not yet.
Prince William is reliving the drama brought on by what he perceives as invasion of privacy. Although William has said he intended to protect Kate from being hounded by the paparazzi, this incident validates the fact that a member of the royal family is not going to have much privacy.
“William and Harry lost their mother in circumstances in France where the press, at that time, were completely out of control. This will bring back painful memories,” Michael Ellis, a Conservative lawmaker, told the media.
The royal family is not sitting idly by while they are beginning to feel that Kate is being aggressively sought after by paparazzi in a manner similar to Princess Diana.
Nude photos of the young royals are becoming more common, apparently. Prince Harry was photographed nude while he was on a trip to Las Vegas recently. The prince seems to be recovering from the release of nude photos due to his military service and a recent attack on Camp Bastion in Afghanistan where he is stationed. Allvoices reports that “(n)ews of the attack in Afghanistan has raised concerns that the prince is fighting a very serious war and his life is in jeopardy while he is serving his country. The prince is known as Capt. Harry Wales by his fellow military members and is serving his second tour in Afghanistan in a four-month combat deployment. Capt. Wales is a gunner on an Apache helicopter.”
A simple answer to solving this problem would seem to be for the young royals to simply keep their clothes on while in places where the press could see them. An assumption of privacy is not an unreasonable expectation. However, nudity in public is not something that should be expected to be covered - especially for anyone who lives in the public eye. Although the ongoing fascination is sure to continue, one would assume that the heirs in line for the British throne have learned something about the difference between their expectations and the real world.
