Historically, royal families have always wanted the first born of their children to be boys – since a male child would become the heir to the throne and a female just an expense, however a new law by British Prime Minister is set to change all that. This old law had been in place for over 300 years, and states that male children had a right to the throne before female ones. This means that a first-born baby girl would lose out to her younger brother, purely because of her gender. Queen Elizabeth II is currently the UK’s reigning monarch, but she only got the job because she had no brothers to take up the position. David Cameron, the British Prime Minister, went and changed all that brining in a new law that promotes equal opportunities and gets rid of the old draconian law that treated women as second-class citizens. This means that whether Prince William and Kate Middleton have a baby boy or a girl, one thing’s that’s for sure is that child will hold the right to succession, only preceded by Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge. So Will and Kate need not worry about producing a male heir in a hurry – just any heir will do! Hopefully we can look forward to the royal couple’s little prince or princess and know that they have both been given a fair chance in life.
