So, let me get this straight: If 47 percent of the people in this country are leeches who live on government handouts, Mitt Romney, then who are the 53 percent? Are they those who pay federal...
"I hope you write me up as a spoiler for Romney," Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson told Human Events Tuesday. Insisting that he will draw votes from supporters of Barack Obama as well as those of Republican Mitt Romney, the former two-term governor of New Mexico said that warnings from the punditocracy that he might be Romney's undoing in key states may just get the press to take him more seriously. In a wide-ranging interview with Human Events, Johnson -- who briefly sought the Republican nomination for president before taking up the Libertarian standard -- spells out his signature small government views. Specifically, he says, these are overhaul of "Medicare, Medicaid, and military spending," including the withdrawal of many US troops from overseas bases that was championed by Ron Paul in the GOP primaries this year. Johnson also discusses some of the planks in his platform that he feels will appeal to voters more inclined to support Democrat Obama for re-election, among them easing drug laws, "marriage equality," and, as he puts it, "challenging the Democratic Party on civil liberties." The latter point, he said, would include repeal of the Patriot Act, which has been reauthorized by lawmakers in both parties and supported by the Obama administration. The highest former elected official to be a Libertarian nominee for president, Johnson, even critics will agree, is never dull.
