I'm Shakin' - Eliana & Cyrus - Top 20 SYTYCD Season 9

“So You Think You Can Dance” has reached the grand finale and by the end of the night either Tiffany or Eliana and Chehon or Cyrus would take home $100,000, the title of Aamerica’s favourite dancer, and join Nick, Benji, Sabra, Joshua, Julie, Russell, Lauren, and Melanie as winners of the dance reality show.

The top 20 dancers return to the stage to perform a new group number and reprise some of the best and most memorable performances of the season.

Joining head judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy at the judge’s table for the big show were Lil C, Adam Shankman, Debbie Allen, and Tyce Diorio.

The top 20 kick off the night of performances with a routine choreographed by Hip-Hop choreographer Christopher Scott and Contemporary choreographer Sonya Tayeh in what Nigel called, “the best routine that ever opened the show.”. The dancers earned a standing ovation for their performance.

Over the course of the show judges told what they felt was their favourite or most memorable performances of the season. First up was Nigel with the Travis Wall routine inspired by the “Titanic” to “Unchained Melody” by Audrey and Matthew.

Lil C wanted to see some wagography in the East coast Hip-Hop routine from Whitney and All Star Twitch and choreographed by Luther Brown.

Debbie Allen chose the Sonya Tayeh routine “Turning Pages” from Tiffany and George.

Adam chose the Ballroom routine that Nigel called one of the best Paso Doble’s ever seen from a guy on the show with Lindsey and Cole.

Tyce chose the Tabatha and Napoleon routine “Love Cats” from Amelia and Will…and the dumpster.

Mary chose the powerful and meaningful Holocaust routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio with Chehon and All Star Katherine.

Eliana got to chose the one routine she wanted to do again and chose her Contemporary dance with fellow ballet dancer Alex Wong to “Bang Bang”. After the performance Nigel said that Eliana was the top girl on every one of the judge’’s top 20 list in Las Vegas. He added that choreographer Desmond Richardson said that he wanted Eliana for his company once she was eliminated…but she was never eliminated; but kept advancing right into the fianls.

Host Cat Deely chose her own dance, the Disco routine from Tiffany and All Star Brandon that included eleven lifts.

Chehon chose his Argentine Tango with Anya for the dance he wanted to reprise. Mary said that Chehon was extraordinary from the first audition and Chehon experienced greatness on the show.

Hip-Hop All Stars Comfort and Twitch joined choreographer Christopher Scott and Cyrus for an animated Hip-Hop routine involving card sharks.

Tiffany chose her Mandy Moore Contemporary routine with All Star Ade as the dance she wanted to reprise. After her performance May said that Tiffany had done everything she could and then some.

During the course of the show they counted down the top five most memorable moments during the auditons, the top moment was from the Atlanta auditions where three guys who called themselves the Dragon House awed the judges. Instead of just showing clips from the audition, the three guys performed live along with Brian Gainer.

Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen performed her newest single “This Kiss”.

As expected Cyrus chose his performance choreographed by Christopher Scott with All Star Twitch as animated super humans to “Like a Criminal”. Nigel said that Cyrus didn’t just steal a show, he stole the whole season. Nigel added that Cyrus had energy, enthusiasm, was absolutely amazing, and a genius. Nigel predicted an incredible future was in store for Cyrus.

The top 10 dancers and 10 All Stars performed a Hip-Hop routine to “The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King” choreographed by Tabatha and Napoleon.

Finally it was time for the results and the crowning of the winners. First the girls…

Ballet dancer Eliana took the girls crown!

And now for the guys…

For the first time “So You Think You Can Dance” crowned two winners and in another first both dancers were ballet dancers when Cat named Chehon the winner!
