It was a veritable house of treasure in Carson City, Nevada, when tons of gold in the form of coins and bullions valued at $7-million was unearthed from the house of 69-year old Walter Samaszko Jr man whose dead body had been lying in the house for nearly a month.
The treasure was found by workers who had come to clear the property.
Walter had heart disease, lived all by himself and had a habit of hoarding valuables like gold and silver coins and bullions.
He had been living in that house since the 1960s with his mother – she died in 1992 and Walter continued to stay on there.
This has been reported in news.sky.com of dated the 18th of September 2012.
He was in the habit of buying gold from a local coin dealer and the coins were stored in sealed boxes which had been marked as 'books'.
There was also gold wrapped in tin foil and hidden in ammunition boxes.
Some of the gold coins were of vintage types - minted as early as the 1840s.
This entire fortune would now go to his nearest relative - a first cousin who lives in San Rafael, California.
The authorities were able to locate her by using a list of people who had attended Walter’s mother's funeral 20 years back.
