Nicki Minaj makes it to media headlines, for landing a spot on the new panel of judges for American Idol along with. American Idol has been trying to overhaul its look and feel every successive year. This year it is all set to experiment with a new panel of judges. and Simon Cowell have set very high precedents, will Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will be able to do justice to the show? This is a question fans will be able to answer in due course until then Nicki Minaj enjoys the limelight for becoming the new judge at American Idol.
American Idol’s ratings have deteriorated over the years and as it enters the 12th season it has to do something exciting to vow the fans. Minaj and Urban have been added to the foursome panel, which includes new additionand her co-manager, “Idol” veteran Randy Jackson. Randy made through the cut because American Idol couldn’t lock a deal with Latin music icon, Enrique Iglesias.
Cecile Frot-Coutaz, the chief executive of “Idol”-producing FremantleMedia, attempted to justify his selection of judges for the coming season. He said, “Nicki is someone who represents a different side of the music industry, who has now crossed into mainstream culture with her unique artistry, style and flair. Keith is one of country music’s true stars who brings with him charm, wit and knowledge about the industry”. Prior to Nicki and Keith, idol experimented withand who joined the show in 2011 and the ratings for the show considerably fell.
The selection of Minaj, wasn’t that big of surprise to fans. Minaj performed on the show last season, and at one point she even asked JLo to give her a chance to guest-judge the show. Lopez replied by saying there wasn’t much room. Who knew that Nicki Minaj would actually land a spot in the judge’s panel?
Apparently getting a star studded judge’s panel doesn’t really work for reality TV shows anymore. The same was proved wen Fox’s other singing-competition series, the Simon Cowell-created “The X Factor,” replaced Paula Abdul andby pop stars and Demi Lovato. The show’s ratings fell when these judges came on board.
It’s about time producers and makers of reality TV shows focus more on the quality of their singers as opposed to getting big celebrities to judge their shows.
