Mohammed el-Megarif, the President of Libya, is of the opinion that the al-Qaeda was responsible for the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya in which the Ambassador Chris Stevens and two other US diplomats were killed.
The President also said that 50 persons have been arrested in connection with this violent incident.
He also did not subscribe to the theory that the incidents had been triggered by the controversial movie on Prophet Mohammed.
This has been reported in skynews.com of dated 16th of September 2012.
In the opinion of the Libyan President, the incident was a pre-calculated, pre-planned attack carried out specifically to attack the U.S. Consulate on the anniversary of the 9/11 and the movie was a convenient cover.
However,, the US ambassador to the UN insisted that it was not a preplanned attack but a situation that was a sort of a spontaneous reaction of the crowd to what had taken place in Cairo due to the video.
She drew a parallel to the ‘Satanic Verses’, a 1989 book by, which had given rise to violence in Middle East and the for which author had to go into hiding.
That book had also shown Prophet Mohammed in a bad light.
