It took a couple of double-takes but the full floral face-piece “hat” at the Philip Treacy Spring/Summer 2013 fashion show on September 16, 2012 at The Royal Courts Of Justice on in London was none other than pop legend Lady Gaga!
Sitting next to the hat designer himself, Lady Gaga was dressed in a crushed green velvet strapless dress, olive green and black patterned tights and green ankle boots.
The floral headpiece was a multi-colored profusion of pretty Spring blossoms, leaving a cutout for the eyes, nose and mouth. Let us just say that this floral piece on Gaga is not the wackiest…
There are a lot of very interesting and most curious headpieces in this Philip Treacy Spring/Summer 2013 collection. And not all look like your average hat or cap! Some are downright quizzical…
Such as the black and white number that looks like a snail shell and the saffron colored number that looks like a rather sizeable sweet potato chip!
Then there is the electric blue swirl that loosely resembles spermatozoa that is more of an eyepiece than a hat…
More swirls with the jeweled pink number that looks like the curlicue on the head of a Dr. Seuss character.
A transparent striped neon green piece shaped like a perfect square is meant to be worn to cover the face rather than sit on one’s crown and actually resembles a silicon computer chip!
Another piece looks like a fencer’s face protection or more simply a metallic green egg, while another “face hat” was nothing but multicolored gems…
Then there is the horse hair Mohawk that crows a helmet that resembles a jai alai wickerwork bat! Not sure what the electronic thimble was all about…
As expected there were some fascinators with feathers, including one that might’ve been some exotic bird from Papua New Guinea and another the more humble turkey. And then there were the iconic Mickey and Smiley.
Even rock legend Michael Jackson made the cut with a headpiece that was quite simply put a silver glove, perched over one side of the model’s head!
One piece resembled those silly lampshades that veterinarians put on dogs to prevent them from scratching or licking…
This Philip Treacy Spring/Summer 2013 hat collection has a lot of stunners but the silvery Art Deco piece resembling the Empire State Building was a personal favorite.
But back to Lady Gaga, the floral headpiece on Lady Gaga was actually pretty tame by her standards!
Also attending the fashion show were Dita von Teese, Kelly Brook, Kim Cattrall and Bryan Ferry. Enjoy this most unusual Philip Treacy slideshow…
