Mexican federal police have found dismembered bodies of 17 men along a stretch of the Guadalajara-Morelia highway in the town of Tizapan el Alto near state of Jalisco, central Mexico on Sunday, September 16 , believed they were killed in drug cartel violence , Jalisco Attorney General's Office said reports , AP and EFE.

“Our border regions with other states are vulnerable to this kind of action and the dumping of bodies,” said Jalisco state prosecutor Tomas Coronado Olmos , reports AP.

The unidentified bodies have been found at 5:30 am (local time) mutilated and tied with chains and ropes around their necks in a farm located between the state of Jalisco and Michoacan , investigators believe that the victims were killed by an unidentified criminal group but the area is a cartel battleground , reports Daily Mail and AP.

Last Monday, the same town - Tizapan el Alto- has witness a shootout left two people dead and two wounded after clashes between local police and gunmen riding on a convoy.
