
With most of matchday three in the books, Bayern Munich managed a 3-1 against Mainz 05 and remained on top of the Bundesliga. Dortmund with three goals by Hummels, Blaszykowski and Lewandowski, easily defeated Leverkusen and moved into fourth place two points and 6 goals behind Bayern.
Hanover maintained second spot after defeating Bremen 3-2. Nuernberg defeated Gladbach 3-2 and moved into fourth spot. VFB Stuttgart and Fortuna Duesseldorf remained scoreless, thus leaving Duesseldorf in 7th place, while Stuttgart moved to spot 16, pending tomorrow's results when Hoffenheim travels to Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt hosts Hamburg.
There was again much to be excited about. Bayern took an early two goal lead, with goals by Mandzukic and Thomas Mueller and continued to control the game, but a penalty kick against Bayern narrowed the score to 2-1. Bayern seemed to lose its focus for a while, but eventually got back into the game and Tony Kroos finally sealed the victory with a 3-1 win.
Schalke 04, after a scoreless first half, went ahead 2-0 in the second half with goals by Draxler in 25th minute, with a 25 meter shot over the goalie and again in the 88th minute by Holtby. Fuerth put up a stellar fight, but in the end it wasnt enough. The victory propelled Schalke into third place.
Freiburg after going behind 1-0 in the second minute, came back with two unanswered goals in the first half, leading Hoffenheim 2-1 at the half time break. In the second have Hoffenheim got the equalizer, followed by a 3-2 go ahead goal by Freiburg. Hoffenheim again managed to equalize before Freiburg put the match away with two unanswered goals. The 5-3 win moves Freiburg up to 8th place, while Hoffenheim moved into last place, still looking for their first victory this season.
Newly promoted Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Hamburger SV 3-2. Frankfurt scored its two opening goals in the 13th and 18th minute by Inui and Ocean respectively. Just prior to the halftime mark Westermann narrowed the score for Hamburg. Unfortunately also just before halftime Jiracek was handed a red card for a dangerous tackle just outside the box. Hamburg's coach Fink was removed for arguing too much with the referee. Frankfurt dominated the game for long periods in the second half, and Aigner moved the home team ahead 3-1. Despite playing shorthanded, Hamburg managed to close up the scoreline to 3-2 in the 63rd minute with a beautiful goal by Son. In the end Frankfurt prevailed and moved the side into second place tied with FC Bayern, with only a goal difference separating the two clubs. Hamburg is in 17th spot, one of two teams still chasing their first season victory.
