Pope Visits Lebanon in Difficult Times: Historic for Middle East
On Friday September 14, 2012, Pope Benedictus XVI will visit Lebanon on a three-day trip, a historic visit in troubled times, when Christians across the Middle East are suffering the backlash of Islamists' rise to power in many of these countries. In neighboring Syria, Christians have had their share of sectarian suffering from the FSA terrorists. Salafis across the Middle East have been very violent against non-hardline communities, including moderate Muslims, let alone non-Muslim minorities. The visit is thought to be historic for the Middle East as it could address the increased tensions between the Muslim and Western worlds, in addition to the growing split between Western democracy and Islamic Sharia-based rule.
