Bundesliga matchday three kicks off on Friday afternoon, when FC Augsburg meets Wolfburg. Augsburg is still chasing its first victory, while Wolfsburg has one win to its credit. Obviously Augsburg would like to win its first game at home and Wolfsburg needs a win to maintain its contact with the top teams.
On Saturday, both Dortmund and FC Bayern see action. Dortmund hosts Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern hosts Mainz 05. Bayern leads the league with 6 points, after two games, along with a 9-1 goal advantage. On paper Bayern should have no difficulty edging out a victory against Mainz 05.
Dortmund holds the sixth spot in the league, with one win and one draw to its credit. Leverkusen trails Dortmund with one point in ninth spot. Dortmund may have a little harder go than Bayern, but should be able to pick up all three points.
The elephant in the room, of course, is the performance of the German national side on Tuesday against Austria, where the Dortmund defenders showed some weaknesses. Best guess is that Bayern will pick up three points in the Allianz Arena and a narrow win for Dortmund against Leverkusen.
Gladbach hosts Nuernberg on Saturday and Stuttgart, newly promoted, Duesseldorf. The final match up is between Hanover 96 and Werder Bremen.
Gladbach and Nuernberg both have one win and one draw to their credit and the match should prove to be exciting. Glabach, with home advantage, should be able to secure the three points at home. Stuttgart is in the unusual bottom spot of the league, with a humbling goal difference of 1-7. Duesseldorf's sheet shows one win and one draw. Unless Stuttgart falls apart again, they should be able to take away three points against the newcomer. Hanover has a good chance to take the three points against Bremen. Hanover has one win and one draw, while Bremen has one win and one loss from the first two encounters.
In the final match on Saturday Greuther Fuerth hosts Schalke 04. Odds are in favour of Schalke for the three points.
On Sunday FC Freiburg hosts Hoffenheim and Frankfurt hosts . Both Freiburg and Hoffenheim are chasing their first win of the new season. Home advantage goes to Freiburg. Rounding up Matchday 3 is last year's 2. Liga champion Eintracht Frankfurt hosting the Hanseaten from Hamburg. Frankfurt, like Bayern, has won its first two matches and can be expected to win against Hoffenheim, which lost its first two.
Bundesliga Matchday 3 promises to be another exciting day for Bundesliga and TV fans throughout the world. Matchday 3 may see a pattern emerge. Can Bayern continue its winning streak and will Dortmund maintain the contact. Will Frankfurt be the surprise of the 2012/13 season?
