US ambassador to Libya, three others killed in rocket attack

Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center when an armed mob raided the embassy in Benghazi and set the consulate on fire.

It seems the ambassador, who had joined in May-2012, was trying to evacuate the inmates to a safer place to escape from the mob which opened fire and he lost his life.

The mob was apparently protesting at a 'blasphemous' film about the Prophet Muhammad.

This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk of dated 12th of September 2012.

The 2-hour film under dispute shows the Prophet in a bad light and had been made by one Sam Bacile, a 56-year-old real estate developer of California – a 15-minute trailer of the film on YouTube has sparked anger among the followers of Prophet Muhammad.

The US Embassy had sent a military plane to transport the bodies of the dead to Tripoli to fly them back home.
