Houston Texas. Alfredo Perez a spokesman for the U S Marshals Service said Eric McGowan was arrested on Tuesday after he was found in an apartment in Houston. The U S Marshals Service received information on where McGowen was located by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.
McGowen fled from his trial a day before being convicted of raping an 11 year old girl.
Perez said McGowen surrended to the authorities peacefully. The U S Marshals officers then turned McGowen to the law enforcement agents the Texas Rangers who took him back to Liberty County where was he was convicted.
McGowen fled on August 29 which is the same day the rape victim testified crying recalling the terrible ordeal she went through in her hometown of Cleveland Texas. The trial the next day went without the presence of McGowen who was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
McGowen was one 20 men and boys who authorities said assaulted the girl over a period of months since late 2010. McGowen was the first defendant to stand trial in the case. Before McGowen's trial commenced all 14 adults and six juveniles pleaded guilty and are serving time in prison or juvenile detention.
The district attorney case against McGowen included a videotape confession and testimony from nearly twelve eyewitnesses including the rape victim who is now 13 years of age.
