Manila – A homemade explosive tucked in a ping-pong ball accidentally went off inside a jeans pocket of a 26-year old farmer who used to hunt wild boars in the forest of the southern island of Mindanao, wounding and killing him, police reports said Tuesday
Police investigators said Teng Maslamama was on way Monday to a passenger vehicles terminal in Maguindanao’s Parang town when the small ping-pong bomb inserted in his denim’s tight front pocket exploded. Maslamama died of shrapnel wounds while being treated in a nearby hospital.
Police said ping-pong bombs, commonly containing gunpower, nails, and other sharp particles, have had been popular not only as weapons among thugs and gangsters in their riotous rumbles and fraternity wars in urban areas, but also served as practical aids to unscrupulous hunters who enticed the now endangered animals, including deers and wild boars, into biting their baits loaded with the powerful tiny explosives.
