Skooter reporting 09/11/12
Don’t get too excited yet, the reclosable dust cover on Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) was removed for the first time during the 33rd Martian day or sol so it could produce the best quality image we've seen so far of the landscape on Mars.
I said don’t get too excited yet because there’s no water or aliens here unfortunately. Maybe someday. The mission is still early but because the weather had finally settled down and so with the dust, Curiosity was able to remove its protective lens to produce high quality photo.
The level of aspects evident in the image shows that lack of clarity in earlier MAHLI images since landing was due to dust that had settled on the dust cover during the landing.
