New York based Prabal Gurung presented his Spring 2013 collection for New York Fashion Week on the runway at Pier 57 on September 8, 2012 in New York City.
This is a most intriguing collection for next Spring by Prabal Gurung with many pieces that may be the fascination of Biology students who would appreciate the inclusion of vertebrae as well as some anatomical or rather visceral detail hinted at in the prints.
Some prints include red splashes as though blood, while others have red rivulets snaking over the garment…
That being said, Prabal Gurung also has a good selection of evening ensembles and cocktail dresses such as the fluffy grey sleeveless dress with marabou feather details added to the wait and flounced skirt.
A similar strapless dress in red and white is a bit along the lines of the biological pieces mentioned earlier… Needless to say, there is quite a bit of red in this collection!
Taking a departure from all the red, there are designs in a quizzical blue and white print that reminds me of tissue slides Science students observe under microscopes.
An almost militaristic – or is it a nurse’s uniform? – white belted dress with red shoulder inserts and boxy elbow-length sleeves makes quite an impression on the wearer as well…
Carrying on the burgundy trend from this Autumn/Winter 2012/2013, Prabal Gurung also offers a burgundy chiffon tunic, teamed with a satin trouser, topped off with a mid-thigh burgundy brocade sleeveless coat, in touch with his Nepalese roots.
The slate blue shorts suit is equally pleasing as is the slate blue chiffon dress, teamed with fitted pants. There are even some lace dresses with dropped waists, taking the 1920’s for inspiration.
Altogether a very memorable collection for next Spring 2013 from Prabal Gurung. Enjoy the Prabal Gurung Spring 2013 slideshow…
