AC Adapters Explained

Acer began as a company named Multitech in Taiwan in 1976. The company was renamed to Acer in 1987, and focused mainly on electronic parts.

Few laptop parts are more important than the AC adapter. The laptop AC adapter provides the power necessary to recharge a laptop's battery, and can also power the laptop without the need to use battery power.

Acer laptop AC adapters come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Acer laptop AC adapters generally consist of two parts, the transformer, which converts AC power from the wall outlet to the DC power needed by the laptop, and a power cable. The power cable plugs into the wall, and the cord from the AC Adapter plugs into the laptop. Wattage can vary from 60 watts to 180 watts depending on the power needs of each model of laptop. The design of each Acer AC adapter is usually somewhat different for each model series, including differences in aesthetic shape and size, as well as wattages and connector sizes. The connectors are purposely designed to be different, as using the wrong AC adapter could damage a laptop. For this reason, it is imperative to find the right Acer AC adapter to use with your Acer laptop. If you have questions about the compatibility and availability of a specific Acer AC Adapter for your laptop, contact the manufacturer or an authorized laptop repair service center.
