An earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hit the northwest of Costa Rica. This was reported by the American Geophysical Institute (USGS). The epicenter was 20 km depth was detected in 8 kilometers from Samara, 38 miles southeast of Santa Cruz and 68 km west of Puna Arenas. A tsunami warning and 'was launched by the Center warning of the Pacific.

A dozen states threatened. According to the first evidence of the earthquake would not have caused damage in the country's capital .
