
One person was killed and one severely injured by a masked gunman during a midnight victory rally for Quebec’s new premier. The security guards safely rescued the new premier, Pauline Marois of the separatist Parti Quebecois uninjured from her mid-speech. However it was not clear whether Marois was the target as her party is in favor of seperation of the French-speaking province from Canada.
The gunman was later identified as a 50-year-old man. He started firing in the back of the Metropolis auditorium during Marois’s victory speech to hundreds of her supporters. The shooter wore a black ski or balaclava mask and a blue bathrobe over black clothes. He was arrested outside of the auditorium. A 45-year-old man died on the spotand another one, in his 30s was wounded in the shooting rampage.
