Part of the teacher’s job that is more stressing if not the most stressing and draining is instilling discipline among students. Students who are lack and wanting of discipline significantly affect the normal and smooth flow of class routines. They catch and draw teacher’s attention to divert time to them which disturbs the on-going teaching – learning process.
Such situation slows down and impairs if not totally overruns teacher’s momentums. The teacher must not allow such unruly situation to pass. He/she must deal with it accordingly. He/she must not tolerate such misbehavior because it would be unfair for those who are always willing to learn.
In this context, there is a need for the teacher to formulate and implement certain rules and regulations in accordance with needs of the students while in the classroom. Set of instructions that provide guidance and direction for students while in the room. It is as simple as the “Dos and Don’ts” in the room for students to observe, follow and obey. Failures of students to obey the instructions provide bases for the teacher to reprimand and impose punishment against herring students.
Discussing to the student pros and cons of the rules and regulations is very important at the onset of classes for the School Year. It will provide students with the knowledge and information about the existence of the rules especially when they participate in the formulation and ratification of the same. Henceforth, serve as deterrence against unruly behavior in the classes under normal circumstances.
Students obeying rules and regulations will eventually become part of their habits and expected to instill in them the much desired goal of achieving “discipline which is a component part of their being educated. Knowledgeable and skilled but ill-behaved students lacking of discipline are considered not educated.
