Washington D C. The defending World Series chammpion St. Louis Cardinals announced the team has placed All Star shortstopon the 15 day disabled list due to a right strained elbow.
Furcal left the baseball game in Washington after making two throws in the infield in the sixth inning. Furcal said later he left a pop in his elbow.
The decision to place Furcal on the 15 day disabled happened before Friday's game in against the Washington Nationals.are leading the pennant chase for the second playoff slot in the wild card division.
The Cardinals recalled from their AAA minor league team in Memphis Tennessee shortstop Pete Kozma to replace Furcal on the roster. Kozma played shortstop in Friday's game in Washington.
The Cardinals announced they activited outfielderfrom the 15 disabled list to be on the roster on Saturday. Berkman has been on the disabled list since August 3 due to an injured knee.
