Skooter reporting 09/02/12
Gas prices spiked to as high as $4.79 a gallon for regular in the city in the hit of Hurricane Isaac, prompting ire from drivers.
Samuel Flatt said it’s price-gouging, as he paid $42.25 to fill up his 2008 Prius at a Gulf station in Briarwood, Queens. He was just in Suffolk County and saw a sign that says $3.89 for regular, and here in this station, it’s $4.13. A very big difference indeed for no reason at all. Last week it was under $4, he added.
Based on the Web site NewYorkGasPrices.com, the citywide average is $4.06 a gallon, compared with $3.87 a month ago, and a current national average of $3.80. At Citgo stations in The Bronx, the highest local price was $4.79 a gallon.
Furious, that’s how drivers described themselves but helpless.
