Brazil’s Ambassador-Designate to the Philippines, H.E. George Ney De Souza Fernandes, called on Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario last August 16.

The meeting focused on priority areas of engagement such as further developing trade and investments between the two countries, technical cooperation in agriculture, agrarian reform, bio-fuels and management of natural resources; implementation of existing cooperation agreements on bio-fuels and agriculture, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corporation (PADCC) and Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária-Brazilian Enterprise for Agricultural Research (EMBRAPA), and enhanced people to people exchanges, particularly a reciprocal visit to the Philippines of a Brazilian business delegation.

Ambassador Ney said that the Philippines is in a unique position in the region owing to its many commonalities with Brazil, and that the Philippines could serve as a bridge to Latin America.
