Federal Minister for Textile Industry Makhdoom Shahabuddin, while holding an interactive session with members of Executive Committee of World Saraiki Congress, said that creation of a separate Saraiki province is the only way forward to satisfy the grievances of neglected masses of Saraiki region. The Federal Minister said that it was not a political slogan rather a sincere move on the part of Pakistan People Party to address the sense of deprivation of the people of Saraiki region. He added that federation would be strengthened by the creation of new Saraiki province. He said that although it was an uphill task that required considerable homework, broader consensus and utter consolidation yet Saraiki people were equally empowered by strong will and determination to achieve that goal. Various members of Executive Committee also expressed their views about the creation of separate province. Vice President of PPP South Punjab Pir Haider Zaman Qureshi said that financial Injustice was the major cause of this move and wished that Saraiki province would be created before the next general elections. Chairman of World Saraiki Congress Dr. Ghazanfer Mehdi said that since 1947 upper Punjab had usurped 1700 billion dollars of Saraiki region that needed to be paid back. He said that both the federal and provincial governments have been allocating only Rs. 20,000/- per annum for the promotion of Saraiki language and culture that reflects serious injustice to Saraiki people. He demanded the creation of a high level commission for this propose. Aurangzeb Khan, Mazher Arif, Sabtain Raza Lodhi, Pir. Muhammad Yahya Khan, Khurram Shahzad, Saqib Mehdi, Khursheed Ahmed, Shafiq ur Rehman and Jamil Asghir Bhatti while expressing their views declared the creation of separate Saraiki province the basic need of the hour. It was also decided in the meeting that a series of seminars and conferences would be launched throughout the Pakistan soon.
