83-year old Ron Akana had joined the United Airlines in 1949 when still a student at the University of Hawaii and, has been working as a flight attendant with UA since then.

He was one of the first male flight attendants of the airline and had been one for 63-years.

That long tenure in the air has now earned him recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest serving flight attendant and they have confirmed that his name would be entered in its pages in the October-2012 edition.

This has been reported in foxnews.com of dated 28th of August 2012.

His last route was on a United Airlines flight from Denver to Kauai.

Beginning with propeller powered aircrafts he has seen the gradual transition to jets and has been witness to the changes in lifestyle that has been seen in air travel over the ages.

Among his most treasured memories was when he met the cast of the 1953 movie ‘From Here to Eternity’ starring Frank Sinatra and Deborah Kerr.
