Mateus Del Maso, Jr. from Brazil was arrested while trying to board a flight at Orlando International Airport with 27 snakes wrapped in pantyhose and stashed away in inside stereo speakers, reported the Yahoo! News. Del Maso checked the speakers as luggage but soon the hidden snakes were discovered by the inspection team.
He reportedly purchased one ball python, seven boa constrictors, and 19 color morph corn snakes at the National Reptile Breeders Expo in Daytona Beach, Fla. According to a press release from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Del Maso intended to carry the snakes to Brazil and breed them for commercial purposes. He did not have proper autorizaton to carry the snakes into Brazil.
Del Maso was pleaded guilty on August 23 for attempting to smuggle the snakes. He already served two days in Orange County Jail with a fine of $6,000. He was also sentenced to one year of supervised release, and must report to a probation officer within 72 hours of his arrival in U.S. if he ever returns to this country, reported the Yahoo! News.
