Kids in Sderot now have a rocket and bomb proof school inaugurated by the Israeli President Shimon Peres.
In this school, the kids can now carry on their studies in peace without having to run to bomb shelters once they hear the blaring of the warning sirens of impending rocket or bomb attacks.
This has been reported in theaustralian.com.au of dated the 29th of August 2012.
This is the "Shaar Hanegev" High School built at a cost of $US27.5 million ($26.5m) and has structures of concrete walls, reinforced windows and an architectural plan of the walls which are at an angle and designed to absorb and deflect rocket fire.
Regular shelling from the Gaza Strip over the past the 12 years had made life unbearable for residents of Sderot which is situated hardly 2-Km from the Gaza Strip.
The residents were always on edge and many children were traumatized and had to go for psychological counseling.
All those would now, hopefully, be things of the past.
The school took two years to plan and another two years to construct. Each grade has its own color-coded building, with colorful tiles that line the floors and the science lab and an auto shop which are fortified.
