Mogadihsu:August 28, 2012:-The town of Marka has fallen under the control of the Somali National Army with assistance from the African Union forces, forcing Al Shabaab terrorists to depart without putting any resistance on the port town, which is the capital of Lower Shabeele Region.
In a pre-dawn offense, the allied forces encircled Marka, which is
about 90KM away from the capitial. The Al Qaeda affiliated group used the town as a base in which they used to attack both the Somali government and African Union peacekeeping forces.
The capture of Marka comes after strings of successful operations
against Al Qaeda-affiliated groups, dismantling terrorist safe havens and important sources of revenues.
The capture coincides with the historic election of Somalia’s new
parliament and speakership, selecting Mr. Jawaari as the speaker of the Somali parliament for the next four years term. The Somali army will continue its onslaught on Al Qaeda until the country becomes free from the terror of Al Shabaab.
