Syrian rebels shot down a helicopter in Damascus, and posted a video on youtube where you can see the aircraft falling in flames. The rebels announce the same via Twitter.
Some residents in Damascus say the helicopter crashed in the district of Jawbar, in the north-east of Damascus, not far from the square of the Abbasids. In an amateur video released recently by activists you see a thick column of smoke rising from a residential area. More photos appeared on social networks and taken by citizens of Jawbar document the presence of the column of smoke.
Syrian state television has confirmed the crash of a military helicopter to the ground in Damascus without specifying the cause. The Syrian official news agency SANA states in a single line of news that the helicopter crashed between the district and the neighboring district of Jawbar Qabun near the mosque to Ghufran.
Meanwhile, armed confrontations and loud explosions are in the center of Damascus. The conflicts between the rebels and the government have occurred in Christian areas of Tijara and Bab Tuma - in the old town - and close to the square of the Abbasids, the same area where he was shot down a helicopter.
