Bronco's Peyton Manning has never been tackled that hard since his $96 million deal comeback. That could be anytime soon especially facing the 49ers defense today's Week 3 NFL Preseason. However, according to Woody Paige of Denver Post, Peyton Manning signed a contract that will pay him $18 million in 2012, with no guarantees beyond that.

The initial reports of blockbuster a five-year, $96 million contract has some underlining story on it. The truth is that Peyton Manning really signed a one-year contract with the Broncos that will pay him $18 million this year, with no guarantees beyond that, is contrary to mega-million multiple year contract that most people know about.

“End of the day, my contract really is only a one-year contract,” Manning told Woody Paige. “That is the fact of the matter, so I think you do play with a sense of urgency.” If Peyton fails a “neck examination” after the 2012 season, the next two years at a total of $40 million “could be voided.”

It is reported that Manning has undergone third neck surgery in 19 months that ended his 2011 season apperance as Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback. But according to ESPN, Peyton Manning's neck fusion has healed firmly meaning his injured neck is healthy enough to play but the readiness of taking hardshots is completely different story.

Of course John Elway simply played his card safely, that if Peyton passes the “neck examination,” he gets another $40 million. But Broncos can dump Peyton Manning for any reason that matters regarding his health which is clever business wise move.

If Peyton fails a “neck examination” after the preseason because of hard hit that could partly be blamed also on Broncos offensive linemen. However, the Broncos won't let it happen at Mile High Stadium which drew 41,304 fans at summer practice, easily replacing the Tebowmania memories with Manningmania. The Broncos simply gamble with Manning to take a shot at the Super Bowl in 2-3 years at the expense of Tim Tebow. Another thing is if they don’t keep Peyton beyond the coming season, they’ll never have to bring Tebow back, as it backfired on them.
