The first casualty of war is democracy because a country can win a war under a bad commander but no country has ever won a war under a debating parliament. America, a democracy, is fighting a war against radical Islamists in Afghanistan and plans to leaveAfghanistan in 2014. In order to win this war and accomplish the other goals of its foreign policy America is putting its democracy at stake and is behaving like a dictatorship.
According to a recent poll, most of the Americans do not care to know what the religion of their President Barrack Obama is. This is not what happens in a democracy. In a democracy people are supposed to be fully aware of the qualities of their leader before voting for him in the elections. It seems that in America winning an election does not mean that people fully know about the candidate. This is an indication of the decay of democracy in US. People of US do not even realize that they are being ruled by a government because the role of government has so much decayed.
On the other hand, the foreign policy of America is making successes. Immediately after 9/11America decided to go on a never ending war against the perpetrators of the attacks. This decision of US was made by the Bush administration and America continued this policy throughout the eight years of Bush government. The nomination of Barrack Obama as the President of US was an indication that the American people wanted to change the Bush administration policy of confrontation with the Muslim world.
The foreign policy of Obama is making successes in the Muslim world. America is successfully trying to export its brand of democracy to the Muslim countries. The wave of democracy started in Tunis and over night resulted in the change of the regime in this North African country.
The change of government in Libya is an excellent example of the success of the foreign policy of Obama administration. Within days, Libyan leader Moammer Qaddafi lost its support in the West and was openly addressed by President Obama to leave office and pave the way for a democratic government in Libya. The Libyan freedom fighters were supported by the Western forces with the imposition of No Fly zone in Libya. Now Libya has entered the list of Muslim countries where democracy is making its roots.
Egypt was the next country to witness a peaceful revolution. America in the past supported a military dictator in Egypt in an effort to maintain status quo in this most populated Arab country and not let the radical Islamists of Muslim Brotherhood to get the hold of the power. But the new American policy of non confrontation with the Muslim world allowed America to accept a government by radical Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Immediately after holding Presidential office, Barrack Obama in his address to the Muslim world at Cairo University, explicitly stated that America was not at war with Islam and he upheld his words by not interfering with the Egypt election results.
On the other hand the situation in Syria is getting worse day by day. Syria is enjoying support by China and Russia at the General Assembly. America is obviously trying to do its best to equip the opposition in Syria with enough American support to thwart the Assad regime. Syriais the only example where Barrack Obama wants to see success before the Presidential elections and he is finding it difficult.
Here it is pertinent to discuss that Bush Administration was fighting war against Al Qaeda but Obama administration is ignoring the Al Qaeda fact by considering that it has weakened enough to dictate and interfere the American foreign policy any more.
