Skooter reporting 08/26/12
On Saturday, tropical Storm Isaac heads to Cuba after cruising across Haiti’s southern peninsula, where it brought flash floods and at least four deaths, compounding to the misery of a poor nation still trying to recoup from the terrible 2010 earthquake.
Just before midday, Isaac’s center made landfall near the far-eastern tip of Cuba, knocked down trees and power lines.
Forecasters predicted the storm would probably hit through the Gulf of Mexico and approach the Florida Keys on Sunday, then proceed north off the state’s west coast as a hurricane on Monday. The Republican National Convention is slated to start on that same day . Tampa is within the tropical storm watch area, it means forecasters believe tropical storm conditions are likely there within the next 48 hours.
