Manchester United desperately needed a win today in the Barclays Premier League after losing the first match of the season last week against Everton. Today wasn't easy either as Man United played Fulham at Old Trafford.

However, Fulham brought the momentum from their last game into this one as Damien Duff scored off of a cross in the 3rd minute. Once again, Man U was down. However, United picked themselves back up.

In the 10th minute, Patrice Evra sent in a cross to newly-acquired Robin Van Persie. RVP scored his first goal with United to tie the match at 1-1.

Things slowed down until the end of the first half when Shinji Kagawa also scored his first goal for Manchester off of a deflection in the 35th minute to put United ahead 2-1. Six minutes later, Rafael scored off of a header to give Manchester United a commanding 3-1 lead at halftime.

The second half was sort of dicey as Fulham roared back. In the 64th minute, defender Matthew Briggs sent in a crossing pass which United goalkeeper David De Gea played incorrectly. He went to punch the ball, but he was way out of position. The crossing pass deflected off defender Nemanja Vidic into the net to make it 3-2.

Fortunately, United was able to hang on for a 3-2 victory. Unfortunately in extra time, Wayne Rooney attempted to block one final goal shot by Hugo Rodallega. After Rodallega kicked the ball, he accidentally stepped on Rooney's leg, which caused a huge gash in his thigh. As of now, it is not known whether Rooney will be back next week.

Here are the starting lineups from the match. Both teams went with the standard 4-4-2 formation.

Manchester United -- Goalkeeper: De Gea. Defenders: Evra, Vidic, Rafael, Carrick. Midfielders: Anderson, Cleverley, Young, Valencia. Forwards: Kagawa, Van Persie.

Fulham -- Goalkeeper: Schwarzer. Defenders: Hangeland, Hughes, Briggs, Riether. Midfielders: Dembele, Duff, Diarra, Kacaniklic. Forwards: Petric, Ruiz.
