closing in on a deal that would send Adrian Gonzalez, , and Nick Punto to Los Angeles."is now a Dodger? According to ESPN report, "The Dodgers and Red Sox are
Gonzalez was the 1st MLB draft pick in the 2000 by the Florida Marlins. He was traded to the Texas Rangers, and later to the San Diego Padres, where he was selected an All-Star four times and two-time winner of Gold Glove. The four-time Padres team Most Valuable Player (MVP) was traded to the Boston Red Sox before entering the final year of his contract during the 2010 offseason.
On April 15, 2011, Adrian Gonzalez agreed to sign with the Red Sox to a seven-year contract extension worth $154 million through the 2018 season. So giving up Gonzalez would be a shocking move and change of direction for the Red Sox, is making $21 million this season.
Josh Beckett stock however is declining which is not a surprise move for the Red Sox to trade him. Beckett won 2007 World Series with the Red Sox, and received the 2007 ALCS MVP award for his play in that series. Beckett has 5-11 record this season with 5.23 ERA.
Dodgers pitcher Rubby De La Rosa is said to be the centerpiece of the deal, as he will be headed back to Boston, sources say. Also included in the Adrian Gonsalez trade is LA Dodgers first baseman James Loney, prospect Ivan De Jesus, Jerry Sands, and top prospect right hander Allen Webster according to the report.
It all shows that Los Angeles is aggressively making a strong bid to bolster its playoff chances this season. Adrian Gonzalez currently at .300 average, with 15 homerun and 86 RBI surely can fire up the Dodgers final playoff push. Currently the Dodgers (67-58) are trailing with the San Francisco Giants (70-55) by 3 games in the National League West leader. Dodgers has to grab the West Division as safe way to enter the playoff rather than a slim chance in the wild card race
