A typhoon hit southern Taiwan earlier this morning with winds whipping up to 96 miles per hour. The winds knocked down trees and power lines, while the rains overflowed rivers and flooded homes and farmlands.

However, the people of Taiwan were prepared as no deaths have been reported at this time. People took heed to the typhoon warning on Thursday by boarding up their homes. Farmers harvested their rice crops yesterday so that they would not lose their profit potential over the next few months.
