Police shot dead a 53 year old man who had murdered a former coworker, At least 10 people were injured after a shootout near the Empire State, the New York landmark building located between 34th Street and Fifth Avenue Street.
Already confirmed two deaths from the shooting: the shooter was killed by police and a civilian also died. A fire department spokesman said it received a call about the shooting after 9 in the morning.
According to The New York Post, the murderer killed a coworker Midtown street and then began shooting at pedestrians outside the building.
Speaking to Fox 5 News, Aliyah Imam was in the area waiting to cross the street when a woman next to him fell. The woman said the assailant was "firing indiscriminately at people."
Within minutes, emergency units arrived on the streets where the shooting occurred. Police closed to traffic for several blocks around the scene.
For now, the FBI ruled out links with a terrorist act. More than four million people visit the Empire State Building every year.
