The just concluded Olympic Games in London and the National Sports Festival to be hosted in Lagos in November has notifieda a meeting for the zonal co-ordinators of the annual Akwa Ibom State, NNPC/Mobil Schools Athletics Champions,the 16 zonal co-ordinators drawn from the state Ministry of Youth and Sports and the School Sports Directorate considered the meeting “very fruitful” and timely, which allows to adjust the calendar this year.

Mike Akpabio, who is a spokesman for the coordinators also an assistant director in the Sports Ministry and the coordinator of Uyo zone, thanked Mobil Producing Nigeria.

MPN Public Affairs Manager (QIT Ibeno), Akaninyene Esiere, said the coordinators are pillars from which the championship derived its strength and he urged them to continue to be resilient and steadfast, and called on principals of schools and colleges to be more involved in monitoring the affairs of their students.Esiere said that Mobil would make a case for the blacklisting of schools found to have cheated in one way or the other since this programme is the future of track and field in this country and we must ensure that it succeeds

Counting in attendance at the meeting were the Deputy Director, Akwa Ibom Directorate of State School Sports Board, Menyene Nkwo, Chairperson of National Association of Athletics Officials (NAATO), Utit Ofon Nkanta, and consultant to the programme, Paul Bassey.
