Woman crashes car into store after suffering seizure

A woman smashed her car into a store on Canal Street today after experiencing a seizure and hitting another vehicle, authorities and witnesses said. The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. when the woman attempted a turn and struck a car driven by James O’Connell. Then she crashed into the Pearl Paint store near Mercer Street.

The unidentified woman started having a seizure and her foot still got stuck on the gas accelerator, O’Connell, 46, said when he rushed over to her car. The wheels were still turning, so he had to break the window to turn off the engine, he said.

The woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with head trauma.
