Avril Lavigne is back in the limelight, and thankfully, this time it's for happy reasons. Apparently, Lavinge has shocked her fans by announcing her engagement to Nickelback’s singer, Chad Kroeger. The Los Angeles Times reported this news on Tuesday. The couple has been together for six months. There were talks about them getting closer, but no one knew that they would end up getting engaged so soon.
Sources told PEOPLE, "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together."
Chad Kroeger proposed to her on August 8 with a reported 14-carat diamond ring. Well, how could anyone think about saying no to such a romantic and expensive proposal? Avril immediately accepted, and now her engagement ring is almost blinding everyone. In fact, there is more hype about her ring than her engagement to the rock star.
The couple looks exceptionally happy together. A family source told PEOPLE, "They have the same values and really understand each other and they complement each other and are so happy."
Avril hasn’t announced any dates so far. One of her friends told PEOPLE, "They haven't set a date. They're really enjoying this moment.”
Earlier this year, in an interview with HELLO! Canada, Chad and Avril spoke out about their romance. Chad said, "I knew I was falling for her. It was incredibly powerful and something I'll never forget," according to US Magazine.
Lavigne has had a pretty turbulent past in terms of her relationships. She hooked up with Deryck Whibley, lead singer and guitarist for the band Sum 41. The couple started dating when Lavigne was 19. Seven months into their marriage, the songstress stated that "I'm the best thing that's ever happened to him” because she helped him stay away from drugs since she wasn’t into them. Unfortunately, their marriage only lasted a little less than three years and the couple filed for divorce.
In March 2010, Lavigne began dating reality TV personality Brody Jenner, but they split in January 2012.
