Today, i.e. 21 August, 2012, the first Semi Final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup was played between Australia and South Africa; the defending champions emerged as winners. Australia Under-19s beat the strongest team of the tournament by 4 wickets with Cameron Bancroft playing major role for his team; he scored patient 66 runs before he was unfortunately run out. He was declared Man-of-the-Match; very deservingly!

Today’s match was played at Tony Ireland Stadium (Townsville) between the defending ICC Under-19s Champions Australia and South Africa; Australia won the toss and put the opponents to bat first. Batting first, South Africa U-19’s scored pretty challengeable 191 for the loss of 8 wickets, in their 50 overs.

Captain CJ Bowes, MG Coetzee and P Subraven made good contributions and scored 46, 50 and 30 runs respectively. The Australian bowlers gave away as many as 26 extras too. However, even after losing two quick wickets, JJ Pierson and MJ Buchanan (both without scoring), the Australians managed to achieve their target of 192 in 47.4 overs; by losing 6 wickets.

Rising star Cameron Timothy Bancroft scored very well-made 66 runs; he faced 133 balls and hit 5 boundaries and a massive six before being run out. Other major contributors remained KR Patterson and Captain WG Bosisto; they scored 49 and 40 runs. South Africa’s very promising fast bowler LB Williams was very impressive; he took 3 wickets in 10 overs, by giving away 40 runs.

Meanwhile, the second Finalists will be decided on Thursday; when India takes on New Zealand in the second Semi Final.
