Sassy comedienne and actress Phyllis Diller has just died at the age of 95 on Monday August 20, 2012 at her home in Brentwood, California.
Famous for her numerous facelifts, which apparently made her prettier and younger looking over the decades, Diller was a latecomer to show business at the age of 37.
Fans knew her for her outrageous comedic routines about her personal life, including husband “Fang” while she donned outrageous ostrich feather hats, a jeweled cigarette holder (though she was not a smoker!) and outlandish hair and makeup.
She may have poked fun at her “odd looks,” but Phyllis may have been one of the few who actually got more attractive and better dressed as she aged over the decades!
Strutting around in rhinestone-studded boots as part of her stage persona, Diller joked that she “once wore a peekaboo blouse. People would peek and then they’d boo” but her personal wardrobe over the past decade shows her upscale style and love of pastel colors like pink, chiffon and pretty floral dresses, topped off by luxurious fur coats.
Diller was sure to don attractive wigs and sported immaculately applied makeup including perfectly penciled in eyebrows as she made public appearances outside of her comedy shows which showed her with unkempt hair that resembled some exotic fowl and in need of much taming...
Appearing with actresses Florence Henderson and Jayne Meadows at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation on March 5, 2002 in Los Angeles, California for a $1 million check presentation by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, Diller went all haute couture and wore a pink suit and a matching pink Chanel bag! Trés chic…
Her truly wacky comedic persona won her acclaim but in reality, Diller was quite elegant.
Bidding the sassy Ms Phyllis Diller a fond farewell, here’s a tribute to her unique style in my slideshow…
