Skooter reporting 08/20/12
Diana Nyad, 62, went ahead in her pursuit of a record 103 mile (166 km) in the Straits of Florida’s open waters with renewed energy Sunday, without the help of a shark cage.
The Los Angeles endurance athlete was reportedly to be comfortable, confident and steady at around 50 strokes per minute after a traumatic Saturday night of painful jellyfish encounters even with an improved bodysuit that she had hoped would offer better protection.
She was bitten four times on the neck, lips, hand and forehead, her 50-member crew said and who updated fans through social media. Her team reported when she passed the 28-hour mark, but did not give information on the distance she had traveled. However, earlier it reported that Nyad had made 27.7 miles and was taking the chance of ideal conditions with calm seas and little wind.
